The published studies establish that filtration reduces PRRSV introduction and quantify by how much, from the controlled result of Dee and colleagues in 2005 through the herd studies of Dee 2012 and Alonso 2013 to the 65 farm review by Desrosiers and Cousin in 2023. None of them describes how to change a filter without contaminating the clean side, how to seal a penetration, or what a filter change interval should be on a given site. Sealing is where procedure and performance meet most directly. Air that bypasses a filter through an unsealed penetration is unfiltered regardless of the media rating, and the building's protection is set by the leakage path rather than by the specification on the quotation. That makes installation quality and the discipline of the change procedure part of the delivered performance, not separate from it. Guides of this kind are worth having on site for that reason, with any figures they contain checked against the primary literature before being relied on.
